Bridesmaids Hairstyles

The key to remember when trying to decide on what the bridesmaids hairstyles should look are communication.  You as the bride need to ask them how they would like to wear their hair because after all, they will be the ones wearing the hairstyle all day.  There needs to be a compromise between you and them on what would look best.  If you are a "bridezilla" and don't let them contribute to ideas and etc. they are not going to put forth much effort into helping planning your wedding or helping out on the day of the wedding.  Keep the bridesmaids hair styles simple but elegant.  It is important that the light shines on you that day.
So you might be asking yourself if you should make the bridesmaids hair look all the same or all different.  The answer to that is that it doesn't really matter.  The trend a couple decades ago would have been to have identical hairstyles but today it seems that a lot of bridesmaids are wearing different hairstyles.  If you were to do identical hairstyles you would have to make sure the hairstyle would be doable for each individual.  If someone has really short hair, it might be hard to get around. Also, don't try to force anything on anyone as I already mentioned. With that being said, my suggestion would be to do whatever you want and whatever the bridesmaids are willing to wear.  They can both have the potential of looking beautiful and elegant on the big day.

Wedding Hair Down Styles

One thing to consider when deciding to wear your hair up or down for your wedding is the location of the wedding.  Is it indoors or outdoors?  If you will be spending the majority of your wedding day outside, wearing your hair up is probably the best bet.  You could have problems with your hair getting stuck on your lip gloss if its windy, your curls falling if it is humid, raining, or etc.  Another thing to consider when deciding your choice of hair style would the time of the year.  Is it going to be hot, cold, or rainy? There are many factors to take into consideration when deciding your hair style.
With the right weather, wearing your hair down for your wedding can be beautiful  It can frame a full face and can cascade elegantly off the shoulders with a strapless dress.  Wearing your hair down can be very fun!  You could your wear half up half down, you could wear it curly, wavy, straight, or whatever you desire.

Wedding Hair Updos

To find what kind of hair style you want for your wedding, start by researching.  You may want to search on the internet, in magazines, discussing with your hairdresser, and etc.  You may also want to start an album of pictures to show to your hair stylist so that he/she can get an idea of what you want.
Here are a list of questions that you will want to consider before picking a hair style for your wedding:
  1. Are you going to be wearing your hair simple or sophisticated?
  2. What will the length of hair be? Do you need start growing it out?
  3. What color of hair is going to be desired on your wedding day?

There are a wide variety of updos you can do.  Are you thinking tight curls? Lose curls? Wavy hair?  There are pros and cons to any hair style you are going to want to have on your big day.  I suggest picking a hair style that you are comfortable in and one that is sturdy so your not worried about it falling out all day.

Wedding Hair Dos and Don'ts

Wedding Hair DOS

  • You want to make sure you look like yourself - your husband-to-be should recognize you when you walk down the aisle
  • Try to match your hairstyle with the theme of your wedding
  • You need to think simplicity when it comes picking your hairstyle - 50 years  down the road you don't want to look back at your wedding and think "why did I wear my hair like that"?
  • Stay in your comfort zone - you want to look and feel comfortable on the day of the wedding
  • Find a hairstylist that you can be open and honest with and also someone you can trust
  • Do 1,2, or 3 (depending on the complexity) trial 'hair' runs of before the big day
  • Make sure to bring pictures of ideas you have for your hair to your hairstylist so he/she can get an idea of what you like and are looking for
  • In the trial(s), bring any jewels that you may want to incorporate in your hair - you don't want to surprise your hairstylist with any curve balls
  • Communicate with your hairstylist what kind of 'hair' she prefers to work with - whether that be one day unwashed, washed, etc.
  • Wear a button down shirt to the get your hair done on the day of your wedding
  • Leave yourself plenty of time in the morning to get to the hairstylist and etc. so it can be an enjoyable experience
  • Prepare a hair emergency kit for any future hair disasters or complications

Wedding Hair DONT'S
  • Don't do your own hair - it can add a lot of stress on you
  • Don't be cheap when it comes to hiring someone to do your hair - cheap is not always better
  • Don't color, cut, condition, and ect. very close to the wedding - if something goes wrong, you want plenty of time to fix mistakes

Wedding Hair Importance

When a girl becomes of attainable age, she dreams of her wedding.  She plans the colors, the dress, the theme, the hair, and other extravagant details.  This is why on her wedding everything and everyone has to be dependable; it's her big day.  On the morning of her wedding, the first part of the preparation process is the hair styling.  This happens to not only the bride but also the rest of her bridal party. The hair gets done before the makeup and the dress.  This is why there is such an emphasis on the importance of hair in a wedding.  If the hair isn't beautiful, striking, and sturdy, it could potentially be the first stressful thing that happens on the big day.  As there are many things that could go wrong during a wedding and the festivities following, we want to make sure the bride feels that her hair will be the least of her worries. To prevent future 'freak-outs' prior to the day of the wedding, the hair style needs to be practiced and perfected.
